SPL Celtic newsHearts and Hibs fans have both given the thumbs down to newco Rangers being invited into the SPL.

Yesterday’s announcement from HMRC has brought a level of clarity to the issue that has dogged Scottish football since February when Rangers entered administration.

Hearts and Hibs have contrasting views of financing their clubs with Vladimir Romanov propping up Hearts to the tune of a £20m overdraft while Hibs are one of the tightest run clubs in the SPL to the anger of many of their supporters.

There is no proposal yet for a newco Rangers to join the SPL but most clubs have commented on how they will consult with fans before deciding which way to vote.

“Mike Riley, chairman of the Hibs Supporters Clubs told the Edinburgh Evening News: “I think the majority view among the Hibs supporters is that Rangers should be punished and punished severely. They have done wrong and they should stand up and take whatever comes their way.

“Whatever way the vote goes, it is going to cause ructions in Scottish football for a long time to come. For them to come back as a ‘newco’ and go straight back into the SPL would upset a lot of people and I know a lot of Hibs fans who would be very unhappy if that were to be the case.

“They are due many clubs money, so everyone is being dragged into it. I think at the moment, they are getting what they deserve.”

Steve Kilgour, secretary of the Federation of Hearts Supporters’ Clubs, sees the demise of Rangers as a great opportunity for his club.

He said: “Not having Rangers in the SPL might help us because, if we were to emerge as a challenger to Celtic, our crowds could go up.

“When clubs are challenging attendances rise. Look at Hibs when they got relegated to the First Division – their crowds went up because they had a team that was winning. Folk will go and watch a winning team no matter what level it is.

“I think Hearts are one of the clubs it wouldn’t impact too heavily on. Clubs have been relegated from the Premier League and survived so I’m sure they can survive in an SPL without Rangers. The TV money might drop but I don’t think Hearts would suffer.

“Go back to the 2006 season when we were filling Tynecastle ourselves, with or without the Old Firm coming to Edinburgh. A lot of things come with the Old Firm and when they visit a lot of people don’t go any more.”

Any club who have cheated and pilfered to gain an unfair advantage over their fellow clubs deserve to be punished according to the crime. At very least they should be made to hand back trophy’s they never should have had. Shameful behaviour.

  • Jimmy McGovern says:

Well done to both Edinburgh clubs for showing backbone and saying no to the cheats. We should all unite and say no, there can be NO other decision other than NO. It’s time to listen to the people that pay the money… the fans.

Rankers back in the SPL? Just say NO.

IF NEWCO RANKERS ARE GIFTED A WAY BACK TO SPL.The game in SCOTLAND.Is finished. NO MORALS.

Rangers would be the first to complain and not vote yes for any other club to remain if they were in the same boat where would we draw the line, rangers bhye, bhye

  • dombhoy67 says:

If every club Chairman took stock of their own supporters views and voted accordingly there is little doubt that Cheat’s F.C will not be allowed into the SPL. Remember. . .ITS NOT…’BACK’…INTO THE SPL because this Newco have never been in the SPL in the FIRST PLACE.

They have as much right to apply to the SPL as anyone else for that matter. Dunfermline and Dundee should be making a similar application towards joining the SPL so that the SFA / SPL have options.

No to st-rangers F.C. getting into the SPL!

  • Roger says:

Once Cheats always cheats, its in their DNA, its what ranjairs do and have always done, they are a club who dont care how they win as long as they win, cousins of the cheats in Northern Irland who practised gerrymandering for so long, Its just what the do iys they way they are taught by their parents
BOOT THEM OUT COMPLETLY FILTY SCOUNDRELS

  • Kieran says:

its simple “SAY NO TO A NEWCO” Me personally i will still renew my ST if they get in or not ,but i know of plenty who will be down at the TO looking for money back if it transpires that Celtic vote YES.The one thing that bugs me is in the media it is always made out to be only the big bad Celtic fans who are pushing this. When a wee look on other teams forums would suggest that the majority of ALL SPL teams want them out not the majority of some teams but ALL teams
