Two more big names join Ibrox exodus

Neil Lennon newsSteven Davis and Allan McGregor have dealt Sevco with a double blow by quitting Ibrox.

The loss of the Rangers captain and the longest serving player at the club are a massive blow for Green’s hopes of entering the SFL and are likely to see season ticket sales grind to a halt.

Davis took over the armband from Davie Weir last season but failed to lift a trophy as skipper.

With the Irishman informing the club of his refusal to swap his contract over to Sevco it looks like Ally McCoist will have a shadow squad to work with when pre-season training begins on Thursday.

Carlos Bocangra and Kirk Broadfoot are expected to quit Ibrox tomorrow leaving only Lee McCulloch and Lee Wallace from last teams first team squad for McCoist to work with.

On Sunday Steven Whittaker and Steven Naismith announced their decision to quit with others such as Sasa Papac, Sone Aluko and David Healy becoming free agents on Sunday.

McCoist prided himself on the phrase ‘we don’t do walking away’ but after a three month pay cut followed by a lack of communication from newco owner Charlie Green it seems that the bulk of last season’s Rangers players will turn their back on Sevco.

Following the decision of Naismith and Whittaker to quit Green threatened them with legal action but with the backing of the players union it seems that more players will follow their lead.

On Sunday the straight talking Yorkshireman said: “It is a great pity that certain players have chosen this time to attempt to tear up their contracts and walk away from the Club.

“The Club is facing massive challenges in terms of its league status and the last thing the fans want to see is a dispute between the Club and players.

“However, it appears that is the route several players are choosing. I can assure those players and Clubs who may be interested in signing them that Rangers will seek damages for breach of contract and for inducement to break contracts.

“The SFA has been considering the issue and has issued a preliminary guidance note on registration issues. That note has made it clear that it is open to the Club to challenge the actions of the players.”

Green must convince the SFA on Friday that he is capable of running a club otherwise his application for membership will be rejected meaning that he’ll be unable to apply for a place in the Scottish Football League.

After tonight’s announcements Radio Scotland Sport are believed to be having a crisis meeting and offering counselling to staff.

sporting integrity wins the day. If as Green says Scottish football dies then at least it would go out with it’s head held high. Anyway it will survive and rise. We’ll have resurgence of Aberdeen.Hearts Hibs and Dundee Utd. Killie can F##k off
