Tony Watt Celtic newsTony Watt has been called into the Scotland u-21 squad to face Belgium on Tuesday at East End Park.

The 18-year-old played and scored for Scotland at u-19 and u-21 level last season and has been called up to face the Belgians by Billy Stark.

Lewis Toshney was the only Celtic player named in the original squad ahead of the two remaining matches, against Luxembourg and Austria, as Stark attempts to steer the side into the European Championships in Israel.

Looking forward to the match the former Celtic midfielder said: “Belgium will provide us with a really tough match but it’s just the kind of opposition we need before we play our remaining qualifiers.

“They have been producing fantastic young players lately and you only need to look at their A squad to see the quality of player coming through.

“This is a preparation game for Luxembourg and Austria and we’ll be looking to put in a good performance and win the game but it will also give me a chance to have a look at some players who haven’t been involved recently.

“Jamie Ness has had his problems with injury but I’ve been keeping an eye on him and it’s encouraging to see his involvement in Stoke City’s pre-season games. Peter Pawlett has also returned from injury and will give us options on the right and we have Gregg Wylde back in the mix again now that he is able to play with Bolton Wanderers.

“I’ve also included young Murray Wallace as I feel he’s a player that has progressed really well since joining Huddersfield and he gives us some options at the back.

“The obvious absentee from this squad is Murray’s club team mate Jordan Rhodes who I’m sure will be in Craig Levein’s thoughts for the Australia friendly but we have other players who can come in and do a good job for us up front.”

Scotland are currently sitting in second place behind Holland with the ten group winners and the top four runners-up going to Israel.

    Well done young Tony.

I’ve been really disappointed not to have seen more of Tony Watt since his fine display at fir park.

No appearances per-season is a worry.
