Arsenal issue Rangers warning

David Murray Rangers newsArsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has promised supporters that the club will never go down the Glasgow Rangers way.

It’s seven years since the Gunners lifted a trophy with the Emirates Stadium still waiting to welcome it’s first silverware.

During that time Manchester City have spent their way to the title, regularly raiding Arsenal in their quest for players.

The lack of trophies has led to growing frustrations amongst the Arsenal supporter who pay the highest prices in the Premiership for tickets.

Hill-Wood and his fellow directors have resisted selling out to American billionaire Stan Kroenke with the Gunners chairman refusing to spend money that could put the club in jeopardy.

In a rare interview with the London Evening Standard Hill Wood explained: “At a certain level, we can’t compete. I don’t think Stan Kroenke (Arsenal’s majority shareholder) is going to put the sort of dollars in that (Roman) Abramovich or Sheikh Mansour are putting into Chelsea or Manchester City.

“That’s not the way he thinks clubs should be run. Luckily, Arsene understands that. He got an economics degree from Strasbourg University so he’s certainly no fool. He knows how a club should be run.

“That annoys a lot of people but clubs have to be sustainable. We’re not going to go bankrupt in the way one or two other well known clubs have.

“The Glasgow Rangers example is something we’ve all got to guard against. They spent far more money than they could afford. We’re ambitious enough but we’re not going to end in the same plight as Rangers. That is a fact of life. So my advice is don’t get miserable about it.”

  • paddy says:

oh dear, that will be newco fans boycotting everything arsenal, just as well they no longer have those shares…

Arsenal have their own way of obtaining players by paying scouts all over the world to tap the cream of young talent. Certainly can’t knock them for it though buy young / cheap – develop and sell high. I suspect when HMRC do get around to digging deep into the accounts of several top English sides there will be sleepless nights for some ahead.

As long as we have this ridiculous 4 teams+ from the top leagues competing as supposed Champions they will continue to keep fans happy. But for me the CL should ONLY be for true champions.

  • Every club not just Arsenal will be thinking the same.

Who wants to go down that route 140 years wasted trying just to match the bhoys lol, our European Cup dream made us their European Cup dream- broke them

hail hail Scotland’s only European Cup WINNERS

Who is this Rangers we speak of? Does not compute! HH!

Dougie, I was thinking the same thing! Then I did a little research and found that once upon a time there was a club from Govan who stole money and food from the mouths of the needy, cheated in every aspect of the rules of the football game in Scotland, Europe and in fact, the game regulated by FIFA throughout the world. They were completing transfers from multiple clubs without paying the agreed fees! Would you believe that? They even had people planted into positions of power within the SFA, SPL and Referees in Scotland to make their corruptions disappear more easily. They had a guy planted in the refs group as “head”, his name escapes me for the momnet but I seem to think of JFK being assinated in Texas somewhere when I try to remember his name. Then they even had the guy who was their chairman for a while installed as President of the SFA. Oddly, he was chair at this club while their corruption was at its most rife. Fortunately though, he was able to convince everyone in the country that he was never aware of the corruption going on under his nose. (Now thats my kind of chairman, finger on the pulse). Funny thing is he even replaced another plant in the same position who was forced to resign in disgrace, like yet another one, a Jim Farry or something like that.
Apparently there are multiple people still in power at the SFA and SPL who have ties to this old club from Govan. I think this club may just be the rangers they refer to.

I heard that they used to be called titanic rangers f.c and played down Govan way for many years buying anything that moved with money they didn’t have.

It’s said that their owner a Mr Diddlum Murray diddled a tenner every time the famous Glasgow Celtic spent a fiver on players. He then diddled the Scottish public out of over a hundred million pounds in income tax and other payments owed to a range of small businesses.

I also hear that a number of neds got together and tried to resurrect this old dead club with some loose change they had in their pockets. They called it Sevco or something. Can’t see this wee diddy club ever making it anywhere though.

Word has it that its only a matter of time before it too goes bust. Maybe better off in the Juvenile league.

  • dumfriesbhoy says:

yes chickenmurry i think i know of this halfman you speak of, for every fiver celtic spend we will spend a tenner of someone elses as all our money is spent on bribery

  • Aldo says:

For every thruppence hapeny that Elgin spend they’ll spend a shiilling
