Jackson Irvine Celtic newsNeil Lennon was annoyed rather than angry following Celtic’s 2-2 draw with Hibs.

Following the euphoria of reaching the group stage of the Champions Legue with Benfica, Barcelona and Spartak Moscow to light up the coming months it was back to basics for a youthful looking Celtic side.

Celtic started the second half without their first choice midfield- Scott Brown, Beram Kayal Victor Wanyama and Joe Ledley- giving Filip Twardzik and Jackson Irvine the chance to sample the cutting edge of the game.

Filling the demanding central midfield berths in the side must be one of the toughest tasks for any newcomer with neither player looking out of their depth.

Twardzik should have buried a chance late on in the game to give Celtic full points but he wasn’t the only player out of luck around goal.

Gary Hooper struck the woodwork twice in the first half while the normally reliable Tony Watt and Paddy McCourt both failed to hit the target after being put through one on one with Hibs keeper Ben Williams .

“We played some great attacking football particularly in the first half,2 Lennon said. “We should have been out of sight by half time.

“On chances alone we could have won two games, I’m not angry I’m just a little bit annoyed.

“We lost Victor (Wanyama) at half-time to an injury, there’s no doubt that we missed him because we went with two rookies in centre midfield. They did fine, Filip has been there or thereabouts for a while and Jackson made his debut.

“We’ve got through the qualifiers, hopefully after this two week break we’ll have a good squad to go to St Johnstone with.”
