Kenny Dalglish Liverpool newsNew Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is struggling to cope with the financial legacy of Kenny Dalglish’s Anfield regime.

Twelve months ago Dalglish started the new season with over £80m of his own signings in the shape of Andy Carroll, Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Stewart Dowling.

None of that quartet were in the side that lost 2-0 at home to Arsenal to leave Liverpool third from bottom of the Premiership with one point from their opening three matches.

On Thursday Rodgers released Andy Carroll on loan to West Ham expecting to bring in a new striker but found his £6m bid for Clint Dempsey blocked by the club owners, the Fenway Sports Group.

An Anfield return for Michael Owen would have been dismissed a fortnight ago but in their current situation Rodgers can’t afford to rule out any striker.

“I can’t say no,” he admitted when asked about a move for Owen or Didier Drogba who may be about to be released by Shanghai Shenhua. “Any player I believe can improve the squad, I will look at.

“We have a very small group. We had 19 training (on Friday). It is something that would have to be discussed.

“I am not here to cry. Whatever has happened, I wouldn’t change it for the world. I am very proud to manage this club. I have made it my life.

“I felt we needed reinforcements. That is the reality. But it is gone now. The window is shut. We have to concentrate on the players who are already here.

“There is no doubt the finances here had to be changed. That was the reality. We have lost nine players and brought in three. From a business side the club has done well.

“What we have to do in the future is look after the football side. Hopefully in the next window – and the ones after – we can transition a group that allows us to compete.

“But it is a learning process for the owners as well. They invested £100million into the club and then changed one of the most iconic figures at the club.

“They made a big commitment to have me here for the longer term and have been very up front with me.

“There are one or two things we need to iron out. If we do that it will help us in the next window and the ones after. But they have not misled me.”

Let’s stop blaming KD! FSG shouldn’t have given us the money if they couldn’t afford it! One year of investment and everything was going to be great? Then they sack KD in front of TV cameras for the new TV show and then don’t back the new manager!

Let us stop this misrepresentation – the investment that Fenway are alleged to have made was not their money – in reality the purchase of Carroll, Adam, Henderson and Downing was mostly paid for by the sale of Torres, Mascherano and Babbel.

In this transfer window the purchase of Allen et al has been paid for by the sale of Kuyt, Bellamy, Rodriguez, Ecclestone etc, certainly in terms of wages if not transfer.

Yes, FSG paid to cover some of Liverpool’s (or should that be Hicks Gillett’s debts) but to believe the Americans are out of pocket massively is only true that do not improve the value of the club when they choose to sell it as they inevitably will, and that will be as a result of our not winning, and not therefore earning from cup runs, European places, ex[osure, marketing and merchandising etc.

Sooner the better, another bunch of useless conniving AMERICAN carpet baggers think they can make a quick profit with minimal investment – TOTALLY DELUDED – you’re playing with the big boys now – In European football you are TOTAL AMATURES -Get real, moneyball doesn’t work here, its just hard cash ………….So f..ck o.. ASAP

The Yanks have not invested heavily into the club. KD may have 80m on players that did not quite make the grade but one has to take into account the Torres was sold for 50m net effect 30m invested. This transfer window Rogers was only given 20m and we expect miracles.

no good blaming kenny, both rodgers and the owners knew we needed players…the both failed… letting andy go brendon, owners with no money…7 mil for god sake..dempsey why dont they sellto owners who can help out, and owners who know what there doing..they will have us relgated soon and all they will do is run..the amount of change they want cannot afford…they sacked kenny for what? steve clarke at west brom is showing brendon how to do it…bring back rafa..

The fact that FSGarbage wouldn’t put up another paltry 1.5m for a proven goal scorer underlines the fact that they are just another bunch of FKG useless cowboys who think they can win the P’ship or the Champs Lge on the cheap.

WAKE UP – you’re playing with the big boys now and you have got it seriously wrong – BITE THE BULLLET STUMP UP THE CASH OR FK OF BACK TO THE STATES AND GIVE US A CHANCE COS I FIGURE WE ARE ODDS-ON FOR RELEGATION AND I HAVEN’T EVEN MENTIONED THE DREAMER BRENDAN RODGERS – WAKE UP YOU DIM KNUMBSKULL.

I thought the appointment of Rodgers was a huge gamble and really not what Liverpool needed. He took over a good side from Martinez, improved it as again has Laudrup. Now at Anfield he has a great deal of work to do and under immense pressure.

Selling Carrol without first obtaining a replacement shows his weakness with the board. Should have ensured the spine of the side was built first – Can only see difficult times ahead with a shortage of goal scoring strikers.

Big task to make the top 4 AGAIN and that is still well short of where Liverpool should be.
