Neil LennonNeil Lennon will split his winter break between sunshine and signings.

After facing Motherwell next Wednesday Celtic have a 17 break before hosting Hearts on January 19 with the hoops boss making the most of a rare break with the first team squad heading to Marbella in the run up to the Hearts match.

“I’m going out for the first three or four days and then going to England to watch games,” Lennon explained.

“I’ll leave Johan Mjallby, Garry Parker and Stevie Woods to take care of things. Two weeks off is great. They will spend time with their families and maybe go back to their home countries.

“They can then meet up and have a good week in a different environment and enjoy a change of scenery. That’s always good. The players will have a week to refresh their mind and bodies.”

Lennon enjoyed the winter break as a player during his early years at Celtic and is in no doubt about the benefits.

“Guys like Scott Brown and Mikael Lustig have been playing with knocks so it will give them a chance to free that up ahead of a heavy schedule,” the Celtic boss added.

“People are saying: ‘Do you want this break?’ But I think it is important because we have already played 30-odd games this season.

“That’s a helluva lot and it will give them a chance to unwind and take their minds off things.

“It’s not going to be intense. It will, hopefully, be a nice climate and there will be golf involved and bonding. Towards the end of the week it will be a bit more heavy in terms of the physical side.

“We will try to break it up as best we can. I reckon they will enjoy it. They’d rather be in Spain for a week instead of going through the same routine and weather here.”
