James ‘succulent lamb’ Traynor has signed off with his final opinion piece at the Daily Record decrying the declining standards in journalism.
After almost 15 years at the Daily Record Traynor has opted out as the old guard face increasing competitionand scrutiny from new media.
Traynor, or Jabba as he’s known online, has never hidden his contempt for new media and signed off with an attack on the award winning Rangers Tax Case as he closed the door on his career at the Record.
In his Herald days the one-time Airdrieonions s-form signing came to prominence with a mixture of wit and dry humour with his annual fortnight at Wimbledon always readable.
His time at the Record will be best remembered for his sterling service to David Murray including the succulent lamb quote used to celebrate Murray’s tenth anniversary in control of Rangers.
Despite the obvious problems at Ibrox Traynor’s support never wavered with Craig Whyte given the red carpet treatment at the Record with the Rangers support largely falling for the spin proclaiming the wonders of the Motherwell born billionaire.
Traynor’s increasingly antagonistic style is all over his farewell column stating: “Unfortunately, there has been the last twisted and bitter year during which Scottish football, unable to deal with the Rangers crisis in a civilised manner, has tried to tear itself apart. All in the name of sporting integrity, of course.
“Actually, for the last couple of years some of the most bilious types have been allowed to emerge from the shadows and spew invective that sadly became regarded as fact, even though what they were saying and writing wasn’t even close to being definitive. Or honest. Overnight all sorts of anonymous bloggers became experts. These champions of decency had all the answers. They knew better than anyone else. They said over and over Rangers would be done for cheating the tax man.”
He added: “Even now so many – and I include some fellow journalists – still cannot bring themselves to accept Rangers did not cheat the tax man by using EBTs. One journalist declared it to be “a government conspiracy” when he heard the ruling in Rangers’ favour.
“Im so sorry they’ve had to be thrown up into the same piece as some of the true greats and gentlemen of world sport.
“However, that’s it. My work here is done and I’m glad – but just for the record, I’ve not been sacked or made redundant. I was asked to remain but my conscience won’t allow me to stay in our profession.
“The journalism needed by the country, never mind sport, no longer exists in enough of the other media outlets.
“But as I’ve said, the good memories of all those sporting greats will always outweigh the negatives, especially those that bubbled to the surface throughout this last year.”
It was his brother John who was the witty and hilarious journalist who wrote for the evening times for many years and a much nicer and decent person. How these two were spawned from the same gene pool is something that has forever puzzled me.
Goodbye and get tae f**k jabba, you’ll be missed like a boil on my arse!!
HALLELUJAH!!!
Good riddance to Traynor, he was nothing more than a repugnant and deceitful Ibrox cheerleader masquerading as a journalist. A stain on his profession and that is saying something in this current climate.
And as he has done for countless years with his bitter and bile filled rantings dressed up as journalism he signs of with more of his trademark lies by claiming Rangers were completely exonerated by the FTTT! No they weren’t! They were cleared on some counts but found guilty on others.
His last column just summed up exactly the type of journalist he really was, a bitter vindictive hack who twisted and manipulated the truth beyond all recognition to suit his and his favourite club’s agenda. Journalism is a better place with his departure. Once again GOOD RIDDANCE!
Now , it would make my day if , and when , the truth comes out , that he was arsed and necked out of his job .
Fat bigoted repulsive loyalist scumbag waste of a life, you are the same as your beloved rangers, non existant, TAL bampot
Good riddance to this excuse for a journalist. He is one of the many bigoted people in the MSM who need to step aside so Scotland can move forward. It’s only a matter if time but these dinosaurs are still blocking progress by their obvious clinging to old Protestant establishment values. Jabba represented all that is wrong in Scottish society.
Another fat disease that has been totally eradicated from our society. Just a few thousand more to go!
I’ve heard his new job is media/marketing director at Ibrox. Shockeroooni.
He’s had that job for years, only difference now is they are the only ones paying him now. Fat rodent
Sorry, Jim who?
A lot of ‘banter’ on here towards ‘Jim who’. Im sure he will enjoy the harmless fun aimed in his direction. He did like a bit of banter didnt he?
Keevins and Jackson to follow? I believe in you Santa 🙂
He was sacked. This is a fact. A disgrace.
apparently hung like a sparrow
blah blah blah, close the door on the way out jabba,
Hopefully it won’t be too long until Keevens, Leckie, King, Waddell et al are consigned to a distant memory like Jabba.
Traynor was given the bullet and as is so weak livered he cant admit it instead he tell us for the record he was not sacked??
the big issue is looking for writers, try there my succulent lamb, ha ha a old dried out hack being put out to pasture.
happy days
