Charles Green news

George Galloway has called on the government to reclaim the tax debts of Rangers from Sevco.

The Respect MP made an early day motion to parliament on the issue under the title of Rangers Tax Liabilities highlighting how the  insolvency laws have been shown to be inadequate.

While much loved names like Woolworths and Northern Rock have disappeared from the high street Charles Green’s newco appear to be benefiting from the insolvency of the oldco without addressing any of the tax liabilities.

Galloway’s motion states: “That this House notes that the owners of the club now playing in the Scottish Third Division called Rangers claim that it is the same club with the same history as the liquidated club also known as Rangers; further notes that 14 million in VAT and PAYE was withheld in the run-up to administration by the previous Rangers; further notes that the club is now cash-rich through a share issue which raised in excess of 20 million; condemns the use of insolvency laws to avoid paying tax owed; and calls on the Government to take steps to reclaim the outstanding monies from Rangers and to bring forward legislative proposals to prevent clubs and companies sidestepping their liabilities through liquidation and then carrying on trading with effectively the same name and in exactly the same business.”

Green apparently was able to buy Murray Park and Ibrox for a knock down £5.5m fee despite recent valuations putting the assets in the region of £80-100m.

Rather than put the assets of the club up for public auction to get the best deal for creditors administrators Duff & Phelps agreed a cut price deal with Green.

At a recent supporters meeting at Ibrox it was claimed that Duff & Phelps had contacted Green about becoming involved at three other football clubs.

Lawell needs to come out publicly and state for the record that our unwelcome and unwanted association with the old firm tag died with rangers, and this new mob are nothing but a 3rd division team and of no importance or concern to us

    • KevinBarry says:

That’s what Charlie green wants tho as it’ll give them more publicity. If he didny come out with a new cracker every week then everyone would forget who Sevco are! Trust me.

  • PeterC1973 says:

It really doesn’t matter who proposes it, and anyway, another three MPs have signed it. We can’t have a situation where a club runs up an unsustainable amount of debt, liquidates, comes back as a newco and boasts of how much money its got, and even states that it is the same club, and not have any of the responsibility of the debts it incurred. No chance! Well done George. As someone else said, at least it’ll mean Sevco and the MSM will finally come clean and admit they are a different club!

Tax evasion is very much the government agenda at the mo. Hopefully GG (not Gladys) will get some “airtime” on this issue. Then it will be proper journos and analysts asking the questions. Not the make it up, fudd sports writers of the msm.

  • Vinnie says:

This can only help expose this complete long-running farce. Thank you George Galloway. If Sevco or whatever TF they’re calling themselves today have assets valued at £80 to 100 million then D&P should be hamstrung for the £5.5 million sale, the decision to sell to Green & Co. should be reversed (I believe BDO have the power to do this) and all the assets should be sold to the highest bidder in order to pay the creditors including HMRC. This would put a permanent end to Scotland’s shame. Edmiston Drive Tesco ?
    GAME OVER ! Hail ! Hail !

  • Jimmybhoy says:

If I owed millions in tax, I would not be allowed to sell off my assets to my wife, go bankrupt, then move back into the same house etc, HMRC would repossess all m assets and kick us out of our house, fact, this should also happen to the new rangers, if not anyone in debt, just follow the plan above.

  • Monti says:

BDO,Lord Nimmo,Spl enquiry, could you please hurry the fuck up & deliver mortal blows to the Zombie nation,I am sick to the back teeth of these rats spouting about how cash rich they are, share issues, attendances & so on,who gives a f***??

HMRC on appeal must win the tax case,Titles & cups must be stripped,BDO have to declare the purchase by green ‘gratuitous alienation’,SFA must issue a statement informing the Scottish footballing public ‘SEVCO are a new club & have NO HISTORY, don’t have 3 years of accounts & have to change the club crest and name of the former football club.

The MSM have to be ordered by the press regulator to report this new club as an entirely new club with no history. Every time the new clubs fans sing sectarian songs, recordings must be sent to UEFA, Sfa won’t act on this as has been proved in the past. Any threats from Chuckles or Jabba, raise them with police, never give up the fight against them,we owe it to our children! HH

  • Wonky says:

The real scandal in all this is the role of the football authorities in this conspiracy. Without them Duff & Phelps couldn’t have completed their royal stitch up of creditors.

The SPL/SFA/SFL all collaborated in driving through a sticky back plastic DIY football licence for Sevco, Thereby allowing this illusionary fiasco of the “same club”. The creditors should take the SFA to court over this issue…everything else would then have to be investigated.

  • Monti says:

Let no one be in any doubt, this is the time to get them, all of them! Regan,Doncaster & Ogilvie. They have disgraced Scottish football, the only one to cone out of this with any credit is our hero,Craig Whyte.

  • Fitzybhoy says:

How is Jabba and Green man’s PR machine gonna handle this one. I suppose Sally will be demanding to know who the 3 MP’s that co-signed the motion are. Probably hold a press conference in defiance. “Once again everyone is kicking us while we are down”

Sorry boys no one is kicking you – it’s simply elected representatives of the people exercising their democratic rights to expose a Phoenix Trader. At the same time highlighting the shamefull way the taxpayer has been defrauded of millions of pounds worth of Income Tax & Vat.

I feel their pain – honesty, integrity, transparency at work. These attributes may be sorely lacking in Scotland, however they are live & kicking amongst a few good men in Westminster!

You are no longer the “peepul” get over it!

    Hail Hail

  • sam says:

Finally…someone has raised this in parlament…absolute disgrace it was allowed to go on….never a fan of GG…but has shot up in my estimation today…like a previous commentor…maybe some real journalists will pick up the cudgels and finnish this myth for good….spl, sfa, sevco…….sniff sniff…..is that shyte i smell………………….
