Charles Green news

George Galloway has called on the government to reclaim the tax debts of Rangers from Sevco.

The Respect MP made an early day motion to parliament on the issue under the title of Rangers Tax Liabilities highlighting how the  insolvency laws have been shown to be inadequate.

While much loved names like Woolworths and Northern Rock have disappeared from the high street Charles Green’s newco appear to be benefiting from the insolvency of the oldco without addressing any of the tax liabilities.

Galloway’s motion states: “That this House notes that the owners of the club now playing in the Scottish Third Division called Rangers claim that it is the same club with the same history as the liquidated club also known as Rangers; further notes that 14 million in VAT and PAYE was withheld in the run-up to administration by the previous Rangers; further notes that the club is now cash-rich through a share issue which raised in excess of 20 million; condemns the use of insolvency laws to avoid paying tax owed; and calls on the Government to take steps to reclaim the outstanding monies from Rangers and to bring forward legislative proposals to prevent clubs and companies sidestepping their liabilities through liquidation and then carrying on trading with effectively the same name and in exactly the same business.”

Green apparently was able to buy Murray Park and Ibrox for a knock down £5.5m fee despite recent valuations putting the assets in the region of £80-100m.

Rather than put the assets of the club up for public auction to get the best deal for creditors administrators Duff & Phelps agreed a cut price deal with Green.

At a recent supporters meeting at Ibrox it was claimed that Duff & Phelps had contacted Green about becoming involved at three other football clubs.

    • Maertyn says:

      Agreed.

And the debt collection agency advert on this webpage is surely irony of the highest order. Or is it sarcasm? Or just ripping the p#sh out if Sevco?

I hate them just as much as anyone but TBO after this year i want them back , it was exiting and funny to see them fall from grace but if it wasnt for the CL it would be soul destroying, for me anyway !

right out of left field… i can smell chuckies reaction from here!

  • Ciaran says:

Well done Mr. Galloway. Your timing, as ever, is impeccable.
However, there are laws in place to prevent this very scenario ever happening. Questions must be asked at a similar high level as to why the laws were not implemented.
The least that may happen is a public admission that they are NOT the same club, and are in fact Zombies.

  • Monti says:

I have said all along,Celtic & every single football club who were cheated through the years, should pursue every thin dime lost to them. Come on BDO & Lord Nimmo, give us the gift of pure justice.

  • sands1888 says:

Got to love good ol dod, always loves rammin it up them

  • Maurice MicKendrik says:

In actual fact it would have been much better and perhaps delivered more gravitas had it been another MP who delivered these words. Alas, George is known as an unrepentant Tim – getting any other MP to state the obvious would have been almost impossible. As long as there are men like GG in the world we can at least feel partially safe.

    • Mick Toal says:

Just goes to show it has to be a Tim to ask the questions that no other MP has the b…. To ask.

Chuckles Green will now have confirm if they are the same old club or Newco.

      Looking forward to his reply.

Wonder how many Scottish MSM will run this story tomorrow!

  • tccokey says:

    Well said George

  • Tony B says:

Doesn’t matter who it is or indeed what his motivation is, the issues raised need to be addressed and answers are required.
The fact that der orkenkind will be incandescent about it is merely a bonus.

    • kev kilday says:

  • Peter says:

This could be very interesting.ive often heard George speak of the abuse he has taken from some of their fans.he is a very clever man and if they react in their normal way to someone who questions or criticises them then George will not back down. If any of their spokespeople or bloggers fancy taking George on he will eat them alive !!

    • sands1888 says:

Heard a clip of a phone in with him and an orc, had him on toast doesnt even come close, hes got there number, good tim GBTP

      • paranoidandroid says:

He took on some US senate committee over Iraq and wiped the floor with them. I shouldn’t think he’d have too much trouble with Charlie, Jabba, or any of Govan’s finest spokesmen.

        • Peter says:

Hail hail bhoys. I’m actually quite happy about this, there has been a whole lot of skirting about the issue as far as they are concerned. If old Galloway decides to get involved then maybe it will be resolved once and for all

  • Brianmac says:

    Gone yersel George!

  • Neil says:

    Thanks George,

Your Papal Knighthood is in the post.

Lets see how the msn react with hard questions being thrown at George and just printing word for word what Green says.

Well Mr Green, this is one guy who will serve your arse to you on a plate.

    GBGG

  • Hoopybhoy says:

George Galloway is doing the right thing if they are still the same club that they say they r then they should pay the debt they owe but if someone comes out and says they aren’t then that will shut them up about being the same club that they aren’t

  • barcabuster says:

There’s a square-go coming, and my money is on Dundonian, and all round tim good guy, George. That last pf the summer wine fake minor has no chance! Go get him George! I hope its live on Sky!

    • sands1888 says:

  • Stevie says:

Like a wee terrier , oor George will snap and tear at the arse of their troosers until the uk’s tax paying public will see their cheating , lying and devious wee bawbags taking one helluva kicking ….. Rangers ? Sevco ? Geezabrek !

  • Althetim says:

Pure quality from GG. Whilst he makes a valid point, I’m sure his tongue is firmly wedged in his cheek. There is no chance of this doing anything other than popping the gaskets of some Sevco followers and providing us Tims with another laugh at their expense.
    Well done George, great stuff.

  • mark says:
