Ally McCoist Rangers newsJamie Murphy will turn down the advances of Sevco to sign for Sheffield United later this week.

The Motherwell striker was reported to be among Ally McCoist’s top signing targets for September when the transfer embargo negotiated with the SFA is lifted.

Murphy is out of contract in the summer and will join the League One outfit for a down payment of £100,000 which could rise to £250,000.

Sevco had hoped that the lure of playing alongside Ian Black and Kevin Kyle would have made Murphy hold off from making a decision but Stuart McCall believes that the deal is almost completed.

“I fully expect Jamie to play against Celtic, he is 100 per cent on my teamsheet,” the Fir Park boss stated.

“At this moment in time he’s in discussions with Sheffield United and we will see what transpires but we expect Jamie to depart unless something comes from left field.

“I knew we would have to lose one player in January and with Jamie’s contract being up in the summer he was the most likely to go.

“We are not getting anywhere near what he is worth but he has been great for the club.

“He is a great kid to work with and if he does go to Sheffield United then he will do so with our blessing and good wishes.”

Over 150 SPL players will be out of contract at the end of this season with Kilmarnock’s Cammy Bell and Chris Humphrey’s of Motherwell the latest players to be linked with a move to Ibrox.

Following last months share issue Charles Green promised Ally McCoist a transfer warchest of £10m which could rise to £30m.
