Agent denies Lustig move

|

Mikael Lustig newsMikael Lustig’s agent has denied that the defender is on the brink of a £1.5m move to Rubin Kazan.

The Russian transfer window remains open till the end of this month with persistent reports that the Swede is on the Rubin wanted list.

Speaking to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet Lennart Norgren said: “Neither myself or Celtic have been in touch with Rubin Kazan. It is not true that Mikael is heading to Russia.

“We have not had any contact with them, it’s been a persistent rumour through the winter but I’ve no idea where it’s came from.

“Mikael is totally focussed on Celtic and the matches against Juventus. He is enjoying being at Celtic.”

Lustig joined Celtic a year ago from Rosenborg on a free transfer and after a shaky start to his hoops career has been in impressive form this season sharing the right back role with Adam Matthews.

Following Celtic’s Champions League win away to Spartak Moscow he was voted into UEFA’s team of the week.

Lustig missed out on Celtic’s 3-1 win over Inverness Caley Thistle earlier today but is expected to be in the side that faces Juventus on Tuesday.

Celtic made it clear during January that they wouldn’t be selling any of their players with four bids turned down from Norwich City for Gary Hooper.

Victor Wanyama was also the subject of speculation with reports linking the midfielder with moves to Manchester United and Arsenal without any formal bids being received.

Then the agent would do better to simply ignore such idle speculation than to comment and fan the flames / try to attract further interest or push Kazan into making a move. Stinks of agent meddling at a vital time.

Lustig has been playing extremely well indeed just now and I’m sure experienced enough to ignore such speculation. If called upon I am sure he will be fully focussed on the Juventus games.

If & when they do come calling, they better bring a large cheque – very large.
