Bahrudin Atajic Celtic newsNo one played a bigger part in Celtic’s 2013 SFA Youth Cup success that Bahrudin Atajic.

The striker headed the second goal in last night’s 3-1 win over Dunfermline at Hampden but got the ball rolling with the first goal of the campaign away to Hearts at Tynecastle.

The homeside were leading 1-0 with 15 minutes left to play when Atajic struck an outrageous equaliser with a goal that was soon to find fame on You Tube.

“This years cup has been good for me,” he admitted. “I’ve not been at my best in a few of the games but I’ve managed to help the team and I’m happy with that, we have worked hard all season and deserve the glory.

“I’ve tried that shot at Tynecastle a few times in training. I practise things like that and it came off. When the ball came over I could hear some of the boys shouting ‘no’ but when it went in they were all pretty happy and apologised afterwards.

“Everyone wants recognition, especially when you are young, and I was happy when people started talking about my goal. It was a good feeling to know that people were saying kind words and supporting me.

“I’ve been on the bench a few times for the first team, it’s the gaffer’s choice if he thinks I’m ready or not, I’ve enjoyed working with the first team and it would be great to get a chance.

Looking at his role last night Atajic added: “My goal gave us a bit of breathing space although Dunfermline scored 60 seconds later,” he added. “After they scored I told the boys to calm down, you shouldn’t panic in that situation.

“When Denny scored it was a big relief. It’s a great feeling to come to Hampden and win a trophy to go alongside the league title.”

Quite a few of these lads deserve the chance to show what they can do in our remainng fixtures. While too many of the regulars simply go through the motions, for these young guns it’s massive and a real boost for the fans too as we see players bursting a gut for the jersey.

Never let us down yet, so unleash them Neil….cut them loose and sit back and enjoy.

Agree totally Williebhoy, young Attajic is playing consistently well and I’d like to see how he copes with a run out with the senior team. Hail hail
