Liam Henderson

Neil Lennon has been delighted by the way three youngsters have taken to life with the Celtic first team.

Liam Henderson has made a big impact in midfield in the two games played so far in Germany while in defence Calum Waters and Darnel Fisher haven’t let anyone down.

All three players were mainly taken to Germany for experience but it seems that they could be in for an extended stint of top team duty.

“Being here should give them a lift,” Lennon explained. “They are keen to impress. If you look at young Henderson, he did really well in the two games, and now I might keep him around for the duration of the trip.

“Darnel Fisher did well too, Waters has impressed and I would like to give Atajic Bahrudin some game time. I’ve been really pleased with the input from the youngsters. Henderson is only 17 and he has grabbed his opportunity with both hands. he has done really well.

“Liam has been a real stand-out at under-16 and under-17 level.

“His basics are very good, he is very elegant with the ball and he has got a good engine. He has trained with us a few times and he’s always held his own.

“He is young and has a bit of growing to do. but I see a growth spurt in him and he has benefited from that.”

Celtic continue their build up to the new season against Greuther Furth tonight before completing their four match tour on Friday night against Union Berlin.

It’s extremely heartening to see that these young lads are in the plans of Lenny. I would certainly hope to see them getting more of a run out at various stages this season, certainly more than we saw of them last season. I would have thought that, with the death of Oldco FC, the league campaign would have been ideal for giving them some 1st team experience but our rollercoaster, Jekyll & Hyde league form probably meant that Lenny had to rely on his tried and tested (or tesrting at times!) pros.

    Just watched us getting a drubbing…outplayed and outclassed…by a team I’d never heard of….
Our style of play is way short of what’s needed at the top level….too slow…too square…too predictable…said it all before…and it saddens me to see nothing changes.

As for the subject of the article…the youngsters….

I’ve long touted McGeouch to get his chance… but he blew it…big time…

Rogic flitted in and out of the game before disappearing…

Henderson obviously has talent….but he’s not ready for this level…yet…Same goes for Watters…

Felt sorry for Bahrudin…He was lost out there…

I just hope Lenny knows what he’s doing….’cos based on what I’ve seen in the three games so far…we’re no where near it.

Come on gee us a break! Training exercise is all we’ve lost and the competition starts later just back off and moan when and if we fail miserably when it matters….that’s when the real Celtic will turn up!

    Hi guys….
This isn’t a knee jerk reaction to the tour games…believe me….and it’s not moaning either…
It’s a bad day when your opinion…because you care…is put down as moaning….
It’s a fact that in the three games we have played so far…we’ve been really poor.
And to call it a training exercise is kidding yourself on….
My big gripe about the team is…..everybody wants to be a Beckenbauer…everybody.
There is no discipline in the defence….our centre backs wander all over the place…and our full backs like to think they’re wingers…and we get punished….big time.
There’s no real width in the team….and we lose the ball far too often in all areas of the pitch.
However….By all means come back and tell where I’m wrong….
    Hail hail
