Green Brigade bannerThe Green Brigade will have Celtic Park rocking again on Saturday after an agreement was reached between the supporters group and the football club.

Talks have been going on for a number of weeks following Celtic’s announcement that they would close down the popular Section 111 of the ground due to health and safety concerns by Glasgow City Council. This afternoon an agreement was reached with a club statement expected on Friday.

Matters came to a head following the Celtic v Ross County SPFL match on August 3 when the club announced that the section 111 would have to close.

Two days later  a club statement said: “The safety of all spectators is of paramount importance to Celtic Football Club. Given recent events, we have been left with no option but to take steps to ensure the safety of our supporters. We trust that supporters will recognise that the Club has been placed in an impossible position.

“It is therefore with extreme regret that for safety reasons, the Club has taken the decision to relocate supporters currently sitting within Area 111 of the Stadium, where there have been continued examples of unsafe behaviour. Supporters who do not wish to be relocated may choose to receive a pro rata refund and return their season ticket.”

The issue has been debated fiercely among online Celtic supporters with the majority backing the Green Brigade but not to the extent of putting the club at risk of sanctions from UEFA or the city chiefs.

Earlier today on various support forums it was announced that agreement had been reached with Section 111 open for business on Saturday and for the Champions League qualifier on Wednesday against Shakhter Karagandy.

    • john says:

Great news about the green brigade, but i have to agree with you,we should have spent some big money before the start of the season,All the talk cos we beat Liverpool , dont make me laugh, using the gb now is sneaky as f%*+k,on another note im not sure if Neil should be signing his ”bumper ”pay deal just yet the board should wait and see if we win the next round.

  • Billy McCabe says:

    Glad sanity has prevailed.
Guys, restore the image of our Great Club. Both off and on the Park.
If it means, self policing for a while, it will be worth it..

    northarmaghbhoy

    Made a good point there.

Still we need the GB back for next Wed as we’re in section 110 it will be good beside them, and we need the stadium full!

Gotta blow that Kazachs away, and if we don’t then things will blow up! In Lawells face!

  • Mark says:

It’s up to the rest of the stadium to join in and make Celtic park unbearable for the opposition to play in, the GB are only 400-500 strong they need everybody singing to make it what it should be. Lets hear the thunder HH

    • Phil Cassidy says:

Mark you are wrong there pal…The GreenBrigade are only between 60-70 strong the rest who join in Section 111 are NOT GreenBrigade members. That is why some people who run Supporters Clubs around the country & in Ireland are questioning all these negotiations with them as these clubs themselves have more members than the GB do. We are in the current situation with the reenBrigade because they won’t openly condemn those with Fireworks & Flares ect because it will only start to really highlight how small their actual membership is.
In saying all that I’m personally glad they are back and hope they will now “grow up” in respect to their actions whilst adding great noise & colour to The Bhoys.

  • Althetim says:

The GB aren’t “back”, they’ve never been away.
I’m glad agreement has been reached between the GB and club management. Hopefully the guys in 111 abide by the rules, just like the rest of us and the club create a standing area to let them laterally move to their hearts content in future.
Also. I hope the guy with the drum hasn’t heard the news. We don’t need that feckin racket which ads eff all to the atmosphere. It’s just a gawd awful din. IMHO.
