transfer window Celtic newsNeil Lennon has revealed that he may be about to make an early move into the January transfer market.

On Wednesday the transfer window opens for 31 days with most clubs reluctant to do major business during that period.

Lennon is hoping to agree new deals with Georgios Samaras and Joe Ledley but if nothing can be agreed the club is likely to accept cut price offers rather than continue to pay big wages for little return over the final months of the season.

Icelandic striker Holmbert Aron Fridjonsson will become available but landing a proven goalscorer is the deal that the manager and supporters are hoping for.

Lennon has been watching English Championship and Eredivisie matches closely in recent weeks and dropped a hint that a deal may be close to completion.

The Celtic boss told BBC Scotland: “We have targets but we certainly can’t put our finger on saying we’re definitely going to bring one in.

“We have made strides in trying to get one player in but nothing confirmed yet on that.”

Looking back on his side’s 1-0 win over St Johnstone the Celtic boss said: “I thought that we played very well in the first half, scored a wonder goal and I’m pleased with the win.

“We got a little bit ragged early in the second half but we took control again in the last half hour and but for Alan Mannus, who made a wonder save from Kris Commons, the scoreline would have been more comfortable.

“There is more of a will to win about us this season, at times it’s not pretty but you can’t always play silky football, you have to earn the right to play and sometimes dig out a few results. I always felt that we were in control of the game.”

  • Monti says:

Go on Lenny, give us a Xmas present! HH!

  • EuxtonBhoy says:

Monti, Please don’t X the Christ , the new Bhoy will be New Year pressie anyway , he looks good but we seem to have many for 1 slot , 5 out 25 goals scored by striker this season!

    • Monti says:

….and a Merry Christmas to you Euxtonbhoy, haven’t seen much of this lad Johansson but surely, surely he has to be better than what we have just now?
I only rate Stokes out of all our forwards! HH!

      • EuxtonBhoy says:

…mibee get Tony Watt back , his 2 goals on Boxing Day are the type we need now! …give the kid a chance instead of keep spending pennies in hope!

  • Timtim67 says:

Think it might be Johansson. He was in Glasgow Airport this morning

  • paul McCann says:

hope that we get a striker inasap and police scotland are wanting to ban flags thethe first flag to be removed from that dimwitted lnesman

  • PJ44 says:

Young Dallas must be ready to join premier colleagues now that Sevco have received enough help to achieve promotion. He will be welcomed by the men in black to help thwart celtic in their efforts for success.Another good goal chalked off today. They can’t help themselves.

  • Mark Patterson says:

Need goal scorer ASAP need some one finnbogson class act watch him on you player

    • Monti says:

      Mark,
Bangura looked good on YouTube 🙁
I don’t look at Youtube any more after that…..

      • Mildou Wolf says:

You just have to look at Finnbogason’s record in the Dutch top flight you don’t need to watch him, top goal scorer in the league, a class act, but is valued around £5 – 6 million so it won’t be him ! We had the chance to sign him at the start of the season but went for a cheap non scoring striker instead – PUKKI, will we have learned our lesson and push the boat out for a bit of quality who’s a proven goalscorer ? Aye right !

        • paranoidandroid says:

Mr Lawwell seems to do that an awful lot: we find a good player, Peter waits a couple of years until everyone knows about him and his price doubles, then we put in a derisory offer for him.

Nice tactic, Peter. If you don’t really want to spend any money in the first place, that is.

      • Peter says:

        Monti,

Finnbo’s scoring record speaks for itself. However,we are too late for him.Needed him
for CL..Price now 6M, Freebie Lawwell would have a coronary at that price !!

As for Stokes Monti,I have always gave him a chance, but his scoring record, like Sammy,
is poor. His volley yesterday was pitiful.
        Leeds are interested, I would sell in a flash.At best,on a good day,metaphorically speaking,he is a 3’rd striker.

Personally, I have had my fill of poor, weak foreign strikers.
We have to pay more for English strikers, then so be it.I mean players in the Championship
who are of a good quality.
The likes of Deeney,Wells,Tomlin,Forrestieri,Emmnes,Rhodes and the like.
The players of this ilk can and would do us a job.

But,the 1M $ question, will Scrooge ( back to his pre-Christmas days ) Law well open
the chequebook as the window opens ?

  • David says:

WE have spent or should i say wasted the best part of £6 million on Bangura,Pukki and Balde who are not the finished articles and need work and none of the 3 have really featured on a regular basis. Why o why did we not go and get Finbogasson for the same money rather than the 3 mentioned duds. Qualitiy instead of Quantity for me. EVERYTIME.

  • Mick Quigley says:

    Get big Peter crouch in

  • Aldo says:

if you add the goal records of Murphy, Bangura, Lassad, Miku and Balde to their squad numbers then they look quite reasonable

    • peter says:

      Aldo,

To think Miku was given our ‘ iconic ‘ No. 7
jersey. What an imposter. As the others you
mentioned also fall into this category.

      Is this the reason,nobody has the ‘ 7 ‘
      jersey this season ?

Surely it’s TIME pistol pete lawwell, signs
a player of distinction, to honour OUR
      iconic ‘ 7 ‘ jersey ?
