Efe AmbroseEfe Ambrose scored the decisive second goal as Nigeria beat Swaziland 2-0 in a World Cup qualifier.

Leading 1-0 thanks to a Moses Simon fee kick in the 52nd minute Ambrose made the game safe with a well timed run in the 87th minute to calmly volley into the net from eight yards out- followed by his trademark triple forward flip before heading to the bench to celebrate with the Sunday Oliseh and his management team.

Just as the Celtic defender was about to launch his celebrations the television cameras cut to view the celebrating supporters but a slow motion replay captured the energy of Ambrose’s celebrations.

While Ambrose was scoring for Nigeria team-mate Mikael Lustig was celebrating Sweden’s qualification for Euro 2016 following a 4-3 aggregate win over Denmark.

Ten years running Swedish player of the year Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the difference between the two sides, scoring twice to put Sweden 4-1 up on aggregate before the Danes saved face with two late goals.

It’s the fifth time running that Sweden have reached the finals of the European Championships with coach Erik Hamren delighted to be heading for France.

It feels good to get the win because we have been lacking big results in recent games,” he admitted. “I am disappointed that we conceded. We were tired in the second half and Denmark used their substitutes to good effect, with two of them combining for their goal.

“It was a bit problematic that we lost Mikael Antonsson to a first-half injury – we had to change the game plan a bit and could not benefit from the fresh legs of a third sub in the last 15 minutes. We played a high-pressure game, my players had to run a lot, and if you throw in the early substitution, I had a lot of tired players in the second half.

“However, it still feels good to get the victory. Of course it would feel better if it had been 2-0 instead but qualifying is all that matters for us.”

Honestly, don’t care much about internationals. I just want our players back uninjured. If they’ve got a bit of positive attitude boost, that is a bonus …
