Scott McDonald has launched a blistering attack on referee Euan Anderson with Stuart Stevenson and Stephen Mitchell also under fire.

Following Motherwell’s 1-1 draw at Hamilton on Saturday the striker labelled the match officials as arrogant going into detail about their attitude to players.

Earlier this season McDonald escaped punishment when he accused John Beaton of bottling it over a ghost goal that Motherwell were denied during a defeat from Dundee.

It’s been another season of refereeing controversy with Willie Collum, Bobby Madden, Craig Thomson, Andrew Dallas and Beaton creating their own headlines but the little Australian striker believes that Anderson is in a league of his own.

The thing I have to say about the officials — and they got the red card right — is that in terms of trying to talk to them, they were the worst I’ve had this season,” McDonald told The Sun. “The arrogance of them was incredible.

In terms of the game itself, it wasn’t too bad, but in terms of trying to speak to them, the linesman was just deplorable at times. Just awful.

You don’t mind them having a go back because you give a bit out, but if they get asked a question they should answer it.

It’s not asking much of them, but they run away, tell you to shut up and get on with it.

I asked the referee what he booked me for and he wouldn’t tell me. I wanted to know why. I didn’t understand.”

Louis Moult’s stoppage time equaliser gave Motherwell a precious point to keep them four points ahead of their Lanarkshire rivals.

After the break Motherwell visit Ibrox for a Scottish Cup tie against Sevco before hosting Mark Warburton’s side the following week at Fir Park on league business.
