Playing for their place

With a 34 match unbeaten record on the line tonight the trip to Pittodrie is far from meaningless.

After a little wobble after clinching the title at Tynecastle Brendan Rodgers side are back on form with their last three performances as strong as anything that they’ve produced domestically.

Back to back wins over Sevco have crushed morale at Ibrox and brought the Caixinha revolution to a sudden halt as the growing gap between the two clubs was cruelly highlighted.

Last week against St Johnstone there was no letting up as the in-form Perth side were brushed aside by a Celtic team including two teenagers starting in the SPLF for the first time.

In two weeks time Rodgers will be selecting his team for the Scottish Cup Final and it’s going to be some scrap to get into the first XI.

Some pretty big players will be watching the Hampden action from the stand, over the next three matches covering ten days everyone will be going all out to prove that they are worth a place in the cup final team.

TOM ROGIC

Against St Johnstone last Saturday he looked as if he was getting back to his best which is either brilliant timing or just too late to make the side.

An hour of Rogic on form can be a match winning contribution but there has always been a question mark over his fitness and ability to last 90 minutes.

No one understands the player better than Brendan Rodgers who’ll be watching Rogic closely in the remaining games of the season, it may take a couple of goals to book his place in the side for Hampden

PATRICK ROBERTS

Has dazzled in recent matches since getting the nod ahead of James Forrest to start the semi-final against Sevco at Hampden.

He has shown his commitment by opting out of England duty at the u-20 World Cup Finals in South Korea and is currently the man in possession.

On form he is every full-backs nightmare- especially Andy Considine.

There may just be a fortnight left in his Celtic career- there may be much more- but the stage seems set for Roberts to end the season in memorable style.

CALLUM MCGREGOR

Despite scoring in back-to-back Glasgow derbies it might be the goal that he scored against St Johnstone that says most about McGregor.

It looked like an effort at the end of a training session but said everything about the confidence of the midfielder which now matches his ability.

He made his name as a goalscoring midfielder but seems best suited to a holding role in midfield although that is no deterrent to his impressive bursts into the final third.

His partnership with Scott Brown is very strong which could edge him ahead of Stuart Armstrong for that role at Hampden.

STUART ARMSTRONG

Has been one of the players of the season but his versatility could go against him when it comes to a cup final place.

Is he a better holding midfielder than Callum McGregor? Is he a better attacking midfielder than than Tom Rogic.

It would seem an incredible decision from Rodgers to make but the Celtic boss has never ducked out the way of big questions.

It is hard to picture Celtic lining up without Armstrong but it may just be a possibility.
