The SPFL have attempted to deflect attention away from today’s Supreme Court ruling in favour of HMRC over Rangers (IL).

After years of delaying and stalling the highest court in the land confirmed that the scam used by Rangers (IL) to recruit and reward players and managers was illegal. It wasn’t available to other clubs.

In 2012 the SPL fined the old club £250,000 for failing to declare the full earnings of players. Rangers effectively fielded ineligible players but while other clubs such as Dundee United and Dunfermline have had results overturned to 3-0 defeats the SPL settled on a fine that took three years to be paid.

Responding to today’s news a nameless SPFL spokesman said: “The Board of the SPFL notes today’s judgement of the Supreme Court. We will now take time to examine the ?judgement in detail and to consider any implications for the SPFL.”

Peter Lawwell, Anne Budge, Leeann Dempster and Neil Doncaster are all members of the SPFL board.

After winning the case HMRC will now push forward for tax payments, interest and penalties from those that received EBT payments which includes Neil McCann, Barry Ferguson, Steven Thompson, Billy Dodds and Alex Rae.
