Robbie Keane has taken his colourful career to Asia by signing for Indian Super League champions Atletico de Kolkata.

Ireland’s record goal scorer left MLS side LA Galaxy last December and turned down numerous offers before deciding to sign up for Atletico who are coached by Teddy Sheringham.

Keane can list Celtic, Inter Milan and Liverpool among his former clubs is looking forward to the new challenge.

At this stage of my career, the offer to experience a new league and culture in Asia appealed to me,” he told ESPN. “To join the current Indian Super League champions is a great pleasure and through hard work I hope to bring the ATK fans more success and enjoyment over the course of the 2017-18 season.”

The eight team ISL season runs from 1 October through to 4 December with the top four teams going into two legged semi finals with a final on 18 December .

Keane joined Celtic on loan from Spurs at the end of the January 2010 transfer window and scored 16 times in 19 appearances.

During his spell Tony Mowbray was sacked with Neil Lennon taking over as caretaker before being appointed as full time manager with Keane returning to Spurs.
