Chris Sutton has called out the ‘Old Firm’ derby for what it is- a mismatch.

All week Sky Sports tried to hype up the Ibrox clash as some sort of meaningful contest with the outcome on a knife edge.

Other than a freaky performance from Bobby Madden in March Celtic have wiped the floor with Sevco in seven outings with the stats telling as powerful a story as the 19-4 goal difference between the clubs.

No one could make a case for any of the Ibrox stars getting a place on the Celtic bench with Sutton stating the obvious on BT Sport before today’s Motherwell v Aberdeen clash at Fir Park.

Back in my days, we always used to think that we are going to have to play well to get a result at Ibrox,” the former Celtic striker said.

This Celtic team know that they can rock up at Ibrox and beat Rangers however. I don’t think that this is a Celtic team on top of their game.

There’s such a huge gap, they were wasteful early on with their final ball. It’s a mismatch, it isn’t a contest any more.”

Nine days ago Sevco fans were whipped into a frenzy about going to the top of the table by beating Partick Thistle by four goals.

After yesterday’s results the best squad in Scotland are sitting in fifth place and will drop to sixth if Motherwell beat Aberdeen.

Sevco’s next match is at Hamilton on Friday with Sutton on duty for BT Sport.
