Emilio Izaguirre has described the perfect football transfer.

In July the defender left Celtic for Saudi side Al-Fayha on a three year contract.

Celtic recovered the £650,000 that they has shelled out in 2010 with the defender playing a pivotal role in Neil Lennon’s transformation of the club.

Izaguirre looked like being a fixture in the Celtic side for years to come but the rapid emergence of Kieran Tierney changed the landscape.

There was no bitterness on the part of the experienced internationalist at losing his place with an injury to Tierney a year ago allowing Izaguirre to pick up a Betfred Cup winners medal and enjoy a win at Ibrox.

Speaking to the AFC website Izaguirre said: “I spent seven seasons at Celtic, winning 11 trophies, playing almost 50 UEFA Champion League games, nearly 300 matches overall, I carry them in my heart.

In the last six months I did not play much, and they did not want me to leave. I was offered a new contract, but I needed to play constantly to be able to play for my national team.

I accepted the offer and I am enjoying here. The most important thing is that I am playing every game and enjoying.”

Izaguirre will catch up with a familiar face over the next week when Honduras face Tom Rogic’s Australia in a play-off for a World Cup Finals place.

Having played in the finals in 2010 and 2014 Izaguirre is hoping to join the elite club to have played in three consecutive World Cup Finals if Honduras can overcome the Socceroos.
