McInnes campaign is stepped up

Will Aberdeen have to wait until after Thursday’s Scotland v Holland international to speak out about the ‘concert party’ attempt to destabilise their club and manager?

Twelve days after Pedro Caixinha was dismissed by Sevco the Ibrox club have still to make a direct move to appoint a replacement.

Almost as soon as the Portuguese had been dismissed Billy Davies was ruled in and out with all speculation leading to Derek McInnes.

Newspapers and broadcasters have been incessant with the story, not even pausing for breath when Sevco issued grim accounts revealing that their existence is dependent on a penniless South African based criminal.

With a few ‘sexy’ non-Scottish names thrown in to the mix to break up the story there has been a constant flow of former Ibrox employees telling their mate Del that it was time to leave Aberdeen to come ‘home’.

Again despite the accounts, Del’s mates have been telling him about the transfer war-chest and impressive wage bill he would get to work with.

All of that is understandable but this week the SFA have added a new sinister edge to the campaign.

To preview the international match Graeme Shinnie and Kenny McLean have been put up for media conferences.

What was the thinking behind those decisions?

Was it to discuss the step up to international football, how their careers have developed, their thoughts on the Dutch side or something apparently unrelated to the Scotland team?

Journalists don’t need an open goal to hit the target but given two inexperienced footballers they’ve bombarded them with questions over the future of their manager.

Today the uncapped Ryan Jack discusses how he wouldn’t have a problem working again under McInnes.

Was this an honest mistake by the SFA or an attempt to undermine one member club to assist another.

Adding to the campaign William Hill, sponsors of the Scottish Cup and the Scotland national side, yesterday put up Lee McCulloch to preview who knows what.

Big Lee duly obliged with his precious thoughts on Del’s future informing us that there wasn’t much more for McInnes to do at Pittodrie and that his career would be better served elsewhere. A bit like McCoist, Warburton, McCall and Caixinha then?

Aberdeen haven’t said a word yet about the campaign being waged against them assisted by an organisation that they are a member of.

Perhaps Stewart Milne just wants to move on and will put up with anything for a slice of Thursday’s gate money?
