Lawwell’s perfect opportunity

Peter Lawwell has the opportunity to deliver a crushing blow to Stewart Regan’s reign of incompetence.

Typing the words ‘according to the Daily Record‘ is never taken lightly but it does seem that the Celtic chief is ready to throw his weight around at Hampden.

For over four months Regan and his merry men have been unable to come up with an answer to the UEFA licence given to Rangers (IL) in 2011 but the former Yorkshire Cricket supremo certainly knows how to arrange a summer jolly.

Mid summer fixtures away to Mexico and Peru will have gone down a treat with the SFA Committee men, especially since UEFA have decided to take the Champions League Final to darkest Kiev just days before the glamour friendly in Peru.

With the hapless international manager instructed to get out a good few days before the match to acclimatise there will be a full turn out of blazers and hangers on but who will make up the squad?

Celtic’s SPFL campaign ends on May 13, the Scottish Cup Final is on May 19. Should Brendan Rodgers’ side win the Premiership title they will be playing a Champions League qualifier on July 10 or 11. There is nothing to justify internationals on different continents on May 29 and June 2.

There is absolutely no benefit in Celtic players trailing off to Lima and Mexico City as Regan and friends enjoy business class travel and all the trimmings.

The next Scotland manager has been lumbered with a problem that he can do without, removing a Chief Executive that has overstayed his welcome by at least six years would be welcomed across the whole of the Scottish game.

Perhaps the Celtic Chief Executive has landed the popular cause to land a telling blow to the man who allowed confidential correspondence involving Celtic to be leaked into the public domain at the start of September.
