Campbell Ogilvie was on the SFA Board that granted Dave King ‘fit and proper’ status while by-passing the Professional Game Board.

The folly of approving a man that sat on the disastrous Ibrox boards of Dave Murray and Craig Whyte is coming home to roost as is the decision to overlook 42 tax convictions on an individual described as a glib and shameless liar by a South African judge.

A day ahead of the AGM of the SFA King has demanded an investigation into whether departing non-executive director Gary Hughes played a part in the decision to hand the new club two Notice’s of Complaint relating to the club currently being liquidated.

Hughes wasn’t involved by King, Andrew Dickson, Alastair Johnston and Paul Murray were involved. They were involved in a scam to deny one member club upto £20m which would also have provided each SPL club with a £250,000 windfall.

The decision to grant King fit and proper status has been a source of mystery with former SFA Chief Executive Stewart Regan claiming that unprecedented background checks were made.

Strangely details of these checks were kept quiet from the more hands on Professional Game Board.

In May 2015 the Daily Mail reported:

The Scottish FA were last night facing fresh questions over the process which ended in Dave King being granted fit-and-proper status.

The new Rangers chairman was given the green light on Tuesday by the eight-man full SFA board following a protracted debate over his South African tax convictions and his presence on the Ibrox board when the club suffered an insolvency event in 2012.

Sportsmail has learned, however, of surprise and concern among some members of the SFA’s 11-man Professional Game Board over their exclusion from the final discussion and decision on the matter.

The current PGB consists of Rod Petrie (Hibs), Neil Doncaster (SPFL), Ralph Topping (SPFL), Peter Lawwell (Celtic), Duncan Fraser (Aberdeen), Mike Mulraney (Alloa), Sandy Stables (Highland League), Andrew Waddell (Lowland League), Stewart Regan (SFA chief executive), Campbell Ogilvie (SFA President) and Alan McRae (first vice-president of the SFA).

The main SFA board consists of Regan, Ogilvie, McRae, Petrie, Barrie Jackson, the independent non-executive director, Peter Lawwell, Ralph Topping and Tom Johnston of the Junior FA.

On June 26 a principal hearing into the 2011 licence issue will be heard by the SFA.

Despite owing £2.8m to HMRC relating to the illegal payments made to Tore Andre Flo and Ronald de Boer the old Rangers club were given a UEFA licence by the SFA.

UEFA rules clearly state that clubs with overdue social payables aren’t eligible to play in UEFA competitions.

Under Dave Murray Rangers (IL) kept the tax authorities at bay by stalling at every turn and were reliant on the income from the Champions League group stage to repay the bills from the previous season.

In August 2011 Ally McCoist’s side lost to Malmo in a Champions League qualifier, within a year the club entered administration then was put into liquidation.
