More transfer failings for Gerrard

Steven Gerrard is unlikely to have Kyle Lafferty in his Sevco squad for the SPFL opener against Aberdeen on Sunday.

After watching his side beat Wigan 3-0 on Sunday the former Liverpool boss stated that he wanted to have two more players for the match against Aberdeen, pushed about how quickly he wanted the new faces he replied tomorrow.

That tomorrow was Monday- the day that Sevco had to cough up £500,000 plus VAT in legal fees to pay for their latest defeat from Sports Direct.

Gerrard generally comes across as impatient, he enjoyed certain standards throughout his career at Liverpool and is experiencing life at an entirely different level at Ibrox.

Already there has been rumblings from supporters about building a team around free transfers and loan signings.

Handing the captaincy to James Tavernier was a red flag for many, the full-back that can’t defend.

Josh Windass seems to remain in favour, Alfredo Morelos is still missing sitters and Andy Halliday is hanging around as a reminder of last season’s hammerings from Celtic.

The failures to sign Jake Cooper or Kean Bryan were the first signs that the transfer war-chest has been emptied. An offer of £200,000 for Lafferty, paid in instalments confirms that view.

Both the Daily Record and The Sun are playing down expectations of Lafferty rolling up at Murray Park, it seems that £500,000 is a step too far despite being linked to Jermain Defoe and Fernando Torres being linked to the Revolution earlier this summer.

Over the next few days Gerrard has to keep the home fans happy in a tricky European tie before facing up to the hatred of Pittodrie and an Aberdeen support that despise their first SPFL opponents with a passion.

When he arrived Gerrard said ‘bring it on’ it may not be too long before he switches over to ‘Let’s Go’.
