Steven Gerrard claims that his side HAS closed the gap on Celtic this season!
A look at the SPFL table will reveal a 10 point gap between the two clubs as the hoops close in on an eighth successive title win.
In recent seasons various characters from Ibrox have been quick to point out that they don’t need to beat Celtic to win the title which is clearly the case.
With failure staring him in the face Gerrard prefers to look at the two head-to-head clashes between the two clubs for comfort rather than the table after 30 matches.
In The Sun he explains:
We are not where we are because of us v Celtic, we are where we are because we have hurt ourselves and drawn games where we should be good enough to take maximum points, for example the three draws against Hibs, one away at Dundee, not turning up against St Johnstone. That’s where we’ve fallen short.
We have closed the gap on Celtic because they’ve taken three points and we’ve taken three points.
Prior to that insight Gerrard had been explaining the difference between a football match and four lions getting out of their cage.
After four matches without a win taking his side to Celtic Park is probably the last fixture that the former Liverpool youth coach would want.
