Mikael Lustig has promised to take part in training tomorrow to prove his fitness for Sunday’s derby match.

The defender picked up a thigh injury during Sweden’s win over Romania on Saturday and sat out last night’s 3-3 draw with Norway on the substitute bench.

Celtic’s defensive options for Sunday’s match have been racked by injury issues with Lustig able to cover in central defence or in his preferred position at right back.

After missing last night’s match he told the Daily Record: “It feels much better. If the match had been tomorrow [Wednesday] night, I think I would have been playing.

Looking towards the weekend he added: “I think so. I will train on Thursday and then we will see.”

Neil Lennon’s squad has been returning to Lennoxtown in instalments following international commitments.

With Olivier Ntcham, Tom Rogic and Filip Benkovic at various stages in their recovery from lengthy injury absences the hoops boss will have some big fitness calls to make before deciding on his team for Sunday.

Kris Ajer was on the opposite side to Lustig last night and appears to have come through the match injury free.
