Neil Lennon has confirmed Scott Bain as Celtic’s first choice goalkeeper.

Craig Gordon played his first competitive match of 2019 when he kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 win over Nomme Kalju with some of the pre-match comments suggesting that the Celtic boss had still to decide who was his number one keeper.

Bain joined Lennon briefly at Hibs in January 2018 before making a deadline day move to Celtic as Scott Allan moved to Easter Road and became Celtic’s first choice keeper a year later.

It’s rare for a club to have two top keepers at the same time but with the domestic season about to kick off Lennon has that happy situation.

Speaking to Radio Scotland before the 2-0 win over Nomme Kalju Lennon explained: “At the minute it’s Scott’s (jersey) because he’s done nothing wrong in the time I’ve been here. This is an opportunity for Craig Gordon, he’s an excellent goalkeeper.”

Bain is expected to return to the side for Saturday’s opening SPFL match at home to St Johnstone as the hoops set off looking for a ninth successive title.

With a year left on his contract Gordon is unlikely to be pushing for a move with Lennon also able to call on Conor Hazard with Ross Doohan on loan to Ayr United for the season.
