Neil Lennon has revealed that Boli Bolingoli Mbombo was suffering illness when he was substituted during Celtic’s 5-0 win over Nomme Kalju.

The former Rapid Vienna defender received treatment for what looked like an ankle injury late in the first half and was replaced by Mikey Johnston after 40 minutes.

Bolingoli rolled his ankle during the 3-1 first leg win over FK Sarajevo a fortnight ago but there was no repeat tonight with BBC Scotland reporting with the benefit of a word after the match:

Christie’s free-kick was nutted home by Ajer via the underside of Pavel Londak’s crossbar. Celtic lost Boli Bolingoli through illness straight after.

Mikey Johnstone replaced Bolingoli on the left to give Celtic even more attacking threat with the young winger causing the Estonian defence all sorts of problems in the second half.

Celtic’s 5-0 win ensures that Tuesday’s visit to Estonia is a formality with a third round place as good as assured where they will face Cluj or Maccabi Tel Aviv with the Romanians winning their first leg 1-0 at home tonight.

Leigh Griffiths’ spectacular free kick just before half time created the main headline but with another two goals the form of Ryan Christie also caught the eye.
