Alan Brazil has let the cat out of the bag about the raft of financial problems heading towards the club at Ibrox.

While the domestic media get into a frenzy over a so-called ‘Old Firm’ title battle there is another much more serious less than a week away from breaking.

On September 23 the extent of the damages due to Sports Direct for breach of contract are expected to be announced as the sportswear firm get compensated for two years of lost income.

With a soaring wage bill that has only been subsidised by the sale of Josh Windass the losses for the year to 30 June 2019 are expected to be north of £10m.

There has been no local analysis of the problems, which have been compounded by the signing of Ryan Kent, but on Thursday morning Brazil shone a torch into what is going on behind the scenes.

Ominously The Sun, Evening Times and The Scotsman decided to carry the quotes:

You know I won’t go into it now, because I can’t substantiate it yet, but I am hearing there are still big problems at Rangers at the top. Big problems with the owner.

I am not going to say any more because someone called me a couple of nights ago – he’s a Rangers supporter as well – and he said, ‘You won’t believe what’s going on’.

Ally McCoist paused for a moment before getting back to his usual wise cracking routines alongside the TalkSPORT host.

Having committed to a package in the region of £10m for Ryan Kent the club from Ibrox won’t be given much leeway when it comes to paying off Sports Direct with a 28 day limit likely to be set for the compensation plus costs.
