Celtic are facing a massive December fixture pile up after the SPFL announced new television dates with further changes likely if the hoops progress to the final of the Betfred Cup.

Critical to the pile up is rescheduling the trip to Tynecastle for Wednesday December 18 which has been postponed due to both clubs being involved in the Betfred Cup semi-finals.

While Celtic’s fixture has been rescheduled for the busiest period of the season Steven Gerrard’s squad can put their feet up with their match against St Johnstone (semi-final date) still to be given a slot thanks to switching their match away with Hibs to Friday December 20 from the following day.

By arranging Sunday and Friday matches there is no slot for the St Johnstone match, with Celtic playing Sunday and Saturday they are being sent to Tynecastle in the Wednesday in-between.

Celtic have nine fixtures scheduled between December 1 and 29 before going on the winter break with three matches in January including the opening fixture in the Scottish Cup.

Last season the SPFL rescheduled the semi-finals of the Betfred Cup, sending Celtic through to Murrayfield for a Sunday lunchtime fixture on the back of a Europa League tie while the other semi-finalists were either given a match in their home city or a fan-friendly late afternoon kick off time.
