Preparations are being made for the Great January Fire Sale at January but it all depends on finding buyers for Steven Gerrard’s bloated squad.

The Ibrox boss recently admitted that he’ll be forced to reduce his squad during the January transfer window as the company desperately looks for ways to plug a £10m black hole- without taking account of the ‘many millions of pounds’ due to be awarded to Sports Direct in January.

Alfredo Morelos has been hyped up to a £25m striker- or double that if you are Kris Boyd- after no bids were uncovered during the summer window.

Mark Allan decided to spend more time with his family after only managing to sell Daniel Candeias with new Director of Football Ross Wilson tasked with trying to come up with some buyers for players without a winners’ medal from a two-horse race.

Ryan Jack and James Tavernier have had the hype in recent weeks but now the attention is turning to Glen Kamara with the sweetener of Lewis Ferguson arriving to cushion the blow although the Aberdeen board would be very wary of fan reaction to that proposal.

The Sun reports:

And Ferguson — son of ex-Gers star Derek and nephew of former title- winning skipper Barry — has been earmarked as a possible replacement the Finland international.

SunSport can reveal new Gers sporting director Ross Wilson has already identified the 20-year-old midfielder as a future target, even though he is under contract with the Dons until the summer of 2024 after penning a new deal earlier this year.

Pittodrie gaffer Derek McInnes will also be desperate to hold onto the dynamic Scotland Under-21 playmaker and keen to fight off any interest from Ibrox. But Gers could have significant money to spend IF they receive the kind of offer they’re anticipating for Kamara — who is contracted until 2023.

As well as failing to sell players, during the summer the Ibrox club paid up on the contracts of Kyle Lafferty, Graham Dorrans and Joe Dodoo.
