Late this afternoon Michael Stewart tweeted that his views wouldn’t be required on Sportsound tonight. Tom English and SFA communications consultant Darryl Broadfoot would discuss the big issues with Kenny MacIntyre.
A tweet from Sportsound set out tonight’s agenda with Steven Gerrard at the centre of attention which probably helped explain Stewart’s absence.
Four weeks ago the show became very listenable as the former Hearts midfielder did what others were thinking but daren’t mention live on air.
A strange series of stories emerged about Alfredo Morelos with a certain group of broadcasters and publishers getting kept in the loop with ‘developments’.
Stewart highlighted the role of Ibrox PR guru James Traynor, since then BBC Scotland hasn’t quite been the same.
The former Hearts midfielder was suspended by the BBC who made an on-air apology to Mr Traynor explaining that he hadn’t been in the studio to defend himself. That defence wasn’t put up when Stewart was more critical of Craig Levein or when others have been on the receiving end.
Stewart’s suspension and the inclusion of Broadfoot has exposed the BBC, if they lived in the commercial world they would be answerable.
As the comments below illustrate viewers and listeners can see right through BBC Scotland as they attempt to set the agenda to suit their own wishes rather than provide a public service.
On air 1800 with @TEnglishSport & @DarrylBroadfoot debating Steven Gerrard’s comments on needing time to think. What’s going on with Alfredo Morelos who’s scored just one goal post winter break having netted 28 earlier in season. And we hear from Neil Lennon. Get in touch.

Ask @DarrylBroadfoot How people like Hugh Dallas, sacked from the SFA in disgrace for lying and promoting sectarian hatred, Campbell Ogilvie responsible for the creation of, and the recipient of, an illegal EBT, get a positive CV from the SFA to attain high office in UEFA?

Hope kenny is not too upset. Rangers season finished. ??

Maybe he decided he couldn’t comment on Gerrard and Morelos if they weren’t there to defend themselves?

Another appearance fee for the PR firm.
Good use of license fee payers money there @kennymacsport— Tardelli_82 (@tardelli_82) March 2, 2020
How about talking about refereeing standards. McLean’s display on Saturday has been forgotten about because of Gerrard comments but it really shouldn’t be.

Youve got one club picking who the pundits are and what they can and cant say , the other clubs should stop cooperating with BBC scotland .

So the BBC plan on reintroducing @mstewart_23 into their team was all predicated around rangers winning in the scottish cup as soon as they lose they wheel in a CONFIRMED rangers man in Darryl Broadfoot to appease the audience? Sad and just a little bit pathetic from the Beeb
