Celtic fans were quick to set the record straight with Neil Doncaster after the SPFL chief executive warned that ‘an extremely challenging financial landscape that could have seen a number of our clubs simply cease to exist’. He was referring to the prize money being paid to clubs today.
As everyone with a memory of more than eight years recalls clubs never cease to exist according to Doncaster gymnastics. That was the brand of Accountancy that he applied in 2012 to explain Rangers going into liquidation.
A new club joined the SFA, a new club joined the Scottish Football League and a new club played in the SFL Challenge Cup, joining the League Cup and Scottish Cup at the first round. The new club didn’t play in UEFA competitions in 2012/13 because they didn’t have three years of accounts.
Alongwith his fellow architects of the Five Way Agreement in 2012, including SPFL Board Member Eric Reilly, Doncaster produced a club playing in blue and white out of Ibrox that he later tried to pass off as Rangers.
As shareholder in the old club can confirm, as 276 creditors discovered, as thousands of debenture holders found it the club playing at Ibrox isn’t the Rangers that existed up until 2012.
Doncaster has different versions of the truth for every occasion, fortunately most Scottish football fans know what happened in 2012 which probably explains why the SPFL Chief Executive has been unable to find any job elsewhere in sport.
