Vassilis Barkas is on his way to Scotland to complete a 5m euro transfer to Celtic.

It seems that negotiations have moved on at pace today with agreements struck with AEK Athens and their goalkeeper.

Barkas has two years left to run on his AEK contract but after getting no encouragement from Southampton over Fraser Forster Celtic have stepped up their interest in the Greek goalkeeper.

Sportime.gr reports:

Vassilis Barkas becomes Scottish and the deal seems unlikely to spoil. AEK and Celtic have reached a full agreement for the completion of the purchase and sale of the Greek goalkeeper.

The deal between the two sides is of the order of 5 million euros, while there are bonuses that reach 1.1 million euros. Thus, the total amount of the transfer is expected to reach 6 million euros.

An agreement has also been reached between Barca and Celtic, with the Union goalkeeper signing a four-year contract.

He is expected to leave for Scotland immediately, in order to go through the established medical procedures and then his transfer will be formally announced.

Scott Bain has been the only experienced keeper for Neil Lennon to work with in pre-season but if all goes well with the medical Barkas could be in line to make his debut against Hamilton on Sunday.

The Greek League re-started in June meaning that the keeper is match fit with Celtic three weeks away from going into their Champions League qualifiers.

So far Moi Elyounoussi on loan from Southampton has been the only incoming transfer to Celtic but with the SPFL starting this weekend hoops fans will be looking for a few more additions to join Barkas as the club go for an unprecedented 10th successive title win.
