Peter Lawwell has been warned that Celtic’s disintegrating season is entirely on his watch.

The report comes from Phil MacGiollabhain who claims to have been briefed about the situation at the club on the back of exits from the Champions League, Europa League and Betfred Cup with the side on a run of just two wins in their last 10 matches.

Neil Lennon is in the front line as he takes charge of matches and conducts media interviews but increasingly fans are turning their attention towards the boardroom and the long serving CEO.

Lawwell appointed Lennon on a permanent basis after the 2019 Scottish Cup Final win over Hearts but with his coaching team imposed on him and a 12 month rolling contract the Irishman hardly has a powerbase within the club.

Reflecting on his conversation with a Celtic source, MacGiollabhain reports:

I was told that it had been pointed out to Celtic’s imperious CEO that ‘all of this has happened on your watch’. Given the identity of the person who said that to Mr Lawwell, then it is fair to say that Pedro’s time at Kerrydale Street might be coming to an end sooner rather than later. He is undoubtedly under more scrutiny now than at any time since April 2016.

Ronny Deila stepped down as manager in April 2016 on the back of losing two cup semi-finals with fans in attendance inside Celtic Park falling at an alarming rate.

A month later Brendan Rodgers was appointed as manager with Dermot Desmond reported to be the driving force behind that decision, Rodgers left in February 2019 with Lennon initially brought in on a Caretaker basis.

Donegal based MacGiollabhain blogs extensively on Celtic and has over 40,000 followers on Twitter.
