Neil Lennon absolved himself of blame for Celtic’s horrendous season by lumping the blame on the players he selected.

At the club AGM in December Peter Lawwell boasted of spending £35m on players, at Celtic Park today a St Mirren team recruited from the bargain bucket enjoyed a 2-1 under manager Jim Goodwin.

Today was Celtic’s sixth home defeat of the season with unwanted records being broken with ease in what could have been a historic season.

This month, either side of a disastrous decision to visit Dubai Celtic have recorded one win in six matches as the team drifts directionless with their title hopes dead and buried.

On Friday morning Peter Lawwell announced that he would be leaving at the end of this season, this afternoon he watched a team and coaching staff that has nothing left to offer with four months of the season still to play.

Dominic McKay’s task is getting bigger by the day, the quicker that he gets in to make his mark the better.
