Celtic will have to wait and see to discover the extent of Stephen Welsh’s injury.

The defender needed lengthy treatment before being stretchered off following a challenge by Jonathan Obika that followed through into Welsh’s right foot.

Slow motion pictures from Sky Sports didn’t look good but after the match there was no fracture for Neil Lennon to report.

Picking up on his after-match interview with Radio Scotland, The Sun reports the Celtic boss saying:

I don’t know, it’s a trauma injury as he got caught late in the tackle. His foot’s in a pot at the minute, it’s precautionary but we are hoping it isn’t too bad because the kid has done very, very well for us so far.

Welsh turned in a steady performance alongside Kris Ajer, starting his third consecutive match for the first time.

After clearing the ball he didn’t see Obika arriving and immediately sensed that he wouldn’t be able to continue.

Following four minutes of treatment Shane Duffy replaced the 21-year-old with Celtic going on a late scoring spree with Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie and David Turnbull adding to the opener from Tom Rogic.
