After 18 months in charge and in the week of a cup final Spurs have sacked Jose Mourinho.

The news broke in mid-morning with Spurs sitting in seventh place in the EPL, trailing fourth placed West Ham by five points in the race for a Champions League place.

On Friday night Spurs drew 2-2 away to Everton but two goal Harry Kane suffered an ankle injury and is doubtful for Sunday’s Caribo Cup Final against Manchester City.

Since the glory days as the Special One a decade ago Mourinho has been in a noticeable decline with a return to Chelsea followed by stints at Manchester United and Spurs failing to rekindle past glories.

Spurs chief Daniel Levi is notoriously careful with the club’s money but with Gareth Bale, Deli Alli and others falling foul of Mourinho the decision has been taken to give Mourinho another massive pay-off.

Mourinho was on a reported £15m a year deal that ran until the summer of 2023.
