Glen Kamara is apparently a £10m transfer target for Spartak Moscow with just two weeks to go for Ross Wilson to sell the Ibrox Champions League flops.

The midfielder was signed from Dundee for £50,000 in January 2019 and hasn’t agreed to a new contract despite Steven Gerrard going public about negotiations. Kamara’s salary is likely to be dwarfed by the wages being paid to new recruit John Lundstram.

Since losing to Malmo in the Champions League qualifiers last week all sorts of distress signals have been sent out from Ibrox.

Kamara, Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent are thought to be the most sellable assets as the troubled club looks to raise funds to see out the season while reducing their wage bill.

Breaking the news of interest from Spartak The Sun includes the following detail in their report:

The wife of Spartak’s owner, Zarema Salikhova, claimed in June that talks had taken place over a possible deal last year.

She said: “The footballer was ready to move. I think he would have strengthened Spartak. In the course of negotiations, the price was brought down to £5m. His family live in Finland and he really wanted to play closer to home.”

It is unlikely that many people commute between Helsinki and Moscow even though it does have an advantage over Glasgow of direct flights.

Kamara was born in Finland in 1995 but at the age of two his family moved to London where he was brought up and joined Arsenal before being released without getting near the team.

If Kamara is sold Gerrard has a ready made replacement in Ryan Jack who is expected to resume full training in 7-10 days after successfully undergoing knee surgery in March.

He is under contract at Ibrox until May 2023.
