Gordon Smith is to team up with former top flight referee Mike McCurry to provide Ibrox fans with a night of live entertainment.

From June 2007 to April 2010 the former Rangers star was Chief Executive Officer of the SFA, a period that saw McCurry getting some very high profile fixtures involving the club that he supported including seven matches against Celtic.

As a Baptist minister McCurry’s performances were fawned on by the Scottish media but that image took a dent when a 22-year-old member of his flock revealed that he often took her to the Hampden car park for what the Daily Record described as ‘three times a week romps’.

Despite that stain on his character McCurry retained the backing of the SFA. In one match between Rangers and Dundee United in May 2008 he went the extra miles to ensure a win for his team with Craig Levein spelling it out in his after-match interview for Setanta Sports.

In May 2009 the SFA were forced to drop him from their Grade 1 officials, soon after at the age of 43 he ended his career as a referee. In 2015 McCurry was one of the key speakers at Orangefest arranged with the cooperation of Glasgow City Cuoncil.
