Neil Lennon fears that he has become the forgotten man of football management.

It is almost nine months since the former Bolton boss resigned from Celtic after a disastrous run of results and performances that culminated in losing to a second Ross County manager in three months.

What happened at Celtic last season is likely to remain one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of all-time with Lennon refusing to shed any light on what went on, including

Four consecutive home defeats for the first time since the fifties

Losing 4-1 home and away to Sparta Prague a year after beating Lazio home and away

Complete failure of new signings Albian Ajeti and Vasilis Barkas

The complete collapse in form of Shane Duffy who is now starring with Brighton, riding high in the EPL

Those and many other questions remain unanswered with Lennon also hitting out at Leigh Griffiths in interviews conducted with BBC Scotland.

Using a familiar theme during an interview with the Sunday People Lennon was at a loss to explain why he hasn’t been able to get back into management:

It’s frustrating. Some people probably assume that I’m not looking for a return to management because of the way it ended at Celtic. But nothing could be further from the truth.

I’m still relatively young, as hungry as ever and believe I would bring something to any club. And I’d like to think my track record compares favourably to most.

Some players just got to the end of the road. The pandemic hit us badly, because once we returned to action, we were never the same again. I still look back with immense satisfaction at what I did achieve. But one or two people have short memories. It is a bit of a mystery. I think I’ve done a decent job wherever I’ve been

Lennon’s failure to take any responsibility for last season’s failures at Celtic are unlikely to impress clubs on the look out for a new manager. Over the weekend he has been involved in Sky Sports’ coverage of Northern Ireland’s World Cup qualifiers.
