Paltry compensation figure rubs salt into Ibrox wounds

Hard on the heels of Steven Gerrard’s likely departure to Aston Villa Ibrox fans have been dealt a flesh blow.

According to the Daily Record compensation of just £2-3m will be heading to Ibrox as their former manager clears out the backroom staff leaving James Bell, Colin Stewart and Graeme Murty to pick up the pieces.

Everything at Ibrox gets compared to Celtic. Alfredo Morelos will only leave for Dembele Dollars, Nathan Patterson is better than Kieran Tierney, now they are left comparing the compensation for Gerrard with the £9m that Celtic collected from Leicester for Brendan Rodgers two and a half years ago.

The Daily Record reports:

It’s not easy to say goodbye but Rangers fans hoped they would be awarded a financial bounty if Steven Gerrard walked away. But Record Sport understands that won’t be the case.

A figure between £2m and £3m will be enough to trigger a release clause. But that pales in comparison to the £9m Leicester spent to tempt Brendan Rodgers back to the English Premier League in February 2019.

And even Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen compensation umber – set at £800,000 – seems more fitting compared to Gerrard’s fee. Rangers supporters would have expected more.

Derek McInnes, Barry Ferguson, Alex McLeish and Nuno Espirito Santo are the early front runners to replace Gerrard as Sevco boss with the first match a League Cup semi-final against Hibs on November 21.

Best case scenario: Slippy agrees to go, Sevco play hardball, Slippy stays. Unhappy manager plus unhappy klan plus unhappy klub. He is rubbish. Hope he stays.
