Chris Iwelumo wants the SPFL to amend the fixtures to help the club from Ibrox.

The former Wolves and Charlton striker was appearing on Radio Scotland and clearly understood the sort of thinking that provides regular shifts for Kenny Miller, Richard Foster, Mark Hateley and the other Ibrox apologists.

Playing two games a week is the usual routine for successful footballers as they battle it out on various fronts for success.

Over the next fortnight James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Allan McGregor, Scott Arfield and Ryan Kent will be able to rest up for the challenges ahead while Callum McGregor, Tom Rogic, Carl Starfelt, Josip Juranovic and Reo Hatate are away on international duty before going into the Glasgow derby on April 3.

It seems that two matches against Braga are causing concern for the team at BBC Scotland, picking up on Iwelumo’s comments The Sun reports:

It’s fantastic, great for Scottish football but I do have a little bee bonnet about the fixtures. I think the SPFL can definitely make it a little bit easier for Scottish teams when they get into the latter stages of competitions.

I know La Liga sometimes don’t even have have a game before their teams go out there in Europe. I know there are qualms, people say they are professional footballers, they get paid to play the fixtures but if it is in the SPFL’s power to do so, we want Rangers to go on and be successful and if not win European competitions

In season 2007/08, after postponing a match against Gretna to prepare for a 3-0 home defeat from Lyon, the SPL extended the season to a Thursday night to assist Walter Smith bus-parking European losers. Five clubs had an 11 day wait between their last two matches while all fixtures were shifted to help Rangers with a squad rammed with ineligible players.

Why not give Sevco a 2-0 lead at the start of every match for the rest of the season. Make the opposition play with 10 men right from the get go. Flag all opposition goals for offside and book anyone who has the temerity to shoot at the Sevco goal. Its only fair because they got so many games to play. Oh good grief.

Was wondering when this old chestnut would arise. Guess this will be the focus of attention of the media now. I honestly think they get enough help.
