Steven Gerrard is set to raid Ibrox for Rory Wilson.

The Aston Villa boss resisted the temptation to snap up Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos, Joe Aribo, Ianis Hagi and Glen Kamara during the January transfer window but is set to swoop for the young Ibrox striker.

Kid goals Wilson has resisted signing a pro deal at Ibrox with a Gerrard reunion looking inevitable this summer.

The Sun reports:

ASTON VILLA look set to beat off competition from THREE English Premier League rivals in the race to sign Rangers wonderkid Rory Wilson.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City are also fighting it out to sign the 16-year-old goal machine but ex-Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard is close to persuading the teenager his future will be better served at Villa.

Wilson has been offered a professional contract by Rangers, although the club are resigned to losing him.

The youngster scored twice for Scotland Under-17s against the Czech Republic last week, and has already netted 40 times for the Ibrox youth team this season.

Gers will be due around £300,000 in compensation if he leaves.

Wilson has been getting the full Billy Gilmour treatment from Ibrox friendly media resources but like the Chelsea reserve has body-swerved committing his professional future to the Tribute Act.

Despite the hype that continues to surround Nathan Patterson he has still to play a single minute in the EPL. It is believed that no add-ons were triggered by his 45 minute appearance against Boreham Wood in an FA Cup tie.
