Not for the first time this season John Beaton came to the rescue of the Tribute Act- helping to deny Aberdeen a point at Ibrox as the 10th anniversary of Charles Green’s dream was celebrated by The Gullibles.

It had taken the home side until the 70th minute to get a shot on target with Aberdeen defending well and frustrating the home fans and players.

Scott Arfield and Leon Balogun were introduced early in the second half with Kemar Roofe and John Lundstram thrown on in the 78th minute.

Aberdeen remained composed in their defending going into the last 10 minutes when Beaton decided to overlook a clear push with Roofe scoring the only goal of the game in the 81st minute.

Covering Jim Goodwin’s post match comments, the Daily Record reports the Dons boss saying:

I’m extremely disappointed with the goal we conceded – particularly as we defended pretty much every cross that came into the box really well. I can’t let the goal go without talking about the foul on Ramsay in the build-up.

The first cross that comes into the box from Tavernier, I think – Ramsay is at the back post about to head the ball and Calvin Bassey pushes him off the pitch. I thought that was a simple decision for the referee. From the next passage of play, the ball ends up in the back of our net.

Beaton was in charge of Aberdeen’s earlier visit to Ibrox when he awarded an 82nd minute penalty for contact on Fashion Sakala that only the Lanarkshire based referee noticed. James Tavernier equalised.

In December Beaton awarded a late penalty kick against Ryan Porteous for a challenge on Ryan Kent, Roofe scored the penalty to secure three more fortunate points.

Never a foul. What is for certain though is they are a bang average team. Get a win tonight and we can go to Ibrox in a few weeks with no fear.
