Nicola Sturgeon has condemned the numerous acts of violence at Ibrox yesterday as mindless an thuggish.

Celtic’s 2-1 win at Ibrox moved them into pole position to claim the SPFL title but it was the actions of home supporters that gathered almost as many headlines.

The start of the second half was delayed for five minutes as broken glass was removed from Joe Hart’s goalmouth while a glass/container/object narrowly missed Jota as he took a corner-kick in front of the Union Bears.

A member of the Celtic medical team required stitches at half-time after being struck on the head by a glass bottle.

Strangely there has been no comment or statement from either club with the SFA and SPFL both appearing to be on mute despite the incidents making the television news across the UK. It has been claimed that the SPFL have urged fans to report incidents to the Police Scotland, something that wasn’t evident yesterday at Ibrox.

There is no mention of the incidents or investigations on the Ibrox club website at 1pm on Monday, or across the city at Celtic.

The First Minister was interviewed by LBC News about a number of issues with the Daily Record reporting her saying:

This behaviour is not acceptable, whether it happens at a football match or in the street. People throwing glass bottles is is just not acceptable, it’s mindless, thuggish behaviour and it has no place in any civilised society.

These are matters for the authorities, obviously, the football authorities and potentially for the police and the criminal justice authorities. People should be able to enjoy football.

Football should be something that people can take their kids to and have a happy joyful occasion and behaviour like that, whether it’s at an Old Firm match or any other football match besmirches that and it should absolutely be seen as unacceptable.

Both clubs will meet at Hampden on April 17 with a 50-50 split of tickets with one further meeting in the SPFL still to be scheduled.

I commented about safety before game for other teams and their staff going to that hole nothing will be done because the sfa/spfl or police or their directors don’t have the decency to do anything about it , let them play the remaining games behind closed doors.

    • Scud Missile says:

Their board and the rest of the people backing that klub encourage their fans to do this, just check out who their PR guy is nothing else needs to be said on the matter.

  • Bhoy4life says:

Absolutely no mention of the name Rangers tho.
Once again the kid gloves are out and a steadfast refusal to call them out by name by those with authority.
Is it any wonder each and every act they do is getting worse and worse as there is never any repercussions.
You wouldn’t train a pup like that.

    • Scud Missile says:

Nicola Koresh sh*ts the bed yet again.

You can take the lassie out of Dreghorn etc etc…

Everyone knows who did it, but she’s got the Tim vote sewn up, for some utterly inexplicable reason, and she needs the votes from the majority demographic in this bigoted sewer of a country. She will not, where possible, condemn them openly.

She had to eventually criticise the George Square antics last year as she was forced into a corner. After George Square 1 they should have been on notice. The police should have been on notice.

They weren’t which led to George Square 2 being ably facilitated.

    Shame on them…….
