Chris Sutton has saluted Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers following Celtic’s dramatic win at Ibrox.

Plenty of fingers have been jabbed at the central defenders despite Celtic having the best defensive record in the SPFL Premiership.

Celtic’s attacking instincts have drawn plenty of plaudits but there has been a nagging feeling that the impressive defensive record was mainly due to the amount of time Ange Postecoglou’s side spent breaking down opponents.

It was virtually win or bust for the home-side at Ibrox yesterday- and they flew out the traps with a third minute goal from Aaron Ramsey threatening to overwhelm Celtic.

Tm Rogic’s equaliser allowed the hoops to compose themselves, Carter-Vickers put the visitors in front with a well drilled defensive display in the second half restricting the homeside to minimal chances.

Before the match Sutton had questioned whether Celtic’s central defenders had the steel to come through the test, concluding his column in the Daily Record he was fulsome in his praise:

People had to stand up and be counted when it really counted and it was the ones in green and white who did so with the biggest influence.

No pair stood stronger than Carter-Vickers and Starfelt. The duo were warriors for their team-mates and their manager. It was just the way it had to be for Celtic to win. And that’s what the two of them delivered.

With six matches to go, starting at home to St Johnstone on Saturday Celtic are very much in the driving seat to regain the SPFL title.
